"The city is not a concrete jungle, it is a human zoo." ~ Desmond Morris

My familiarity with this Morris quotation is nothing new but it is only now that it has gained such pertinence and only recently I have sensed a weight lifting; despite my best efforts in recent years, nourishing my connection with nature in the ways and to the degree I have come to understand as vital had become impossible.

On a recent trip throught the forest to a waterfall, someone said to me that "everything here is home to something else," and that is still resonating with me.  I am deeply enjoying being of service to humans whose house is currently my home, shared with the other animals their efforts have rewelcomed into this space, surrounded by the forest from which these buildings are sustainably constructed.  For now, this has brought the strength that I was seeking for the bond between me and the planet.  Something tells me that perhaps my profound belief in organic nutrition (and subsequent holistic understanding that everything we consume must be organic) has brought me to this place, when they are at such a pivotal time in their food production vision.  Also, I thrive when given the opportunity to be proof that we live more with less and, before arriving, had underestimate the elegant simplicity of the non-monetary work situation as an important component of that.

My greatest desire is for my life to be a true expression of the love I feel for all things, a fully-functioning example of everything I have learned, surrounded by inspiring people who instill in me a sense of hope and mirror the wonderous essence of our world.  Food consumption is a moral and politcal act and change - just like your carrots - has to come from the ground up but (on a global scale) even sustainability is not the answer.  Our currently system can not and should not be sustained, something new is needed and figuring out what that is has become perhaps my most exciting adventure yet.  I am enjoying my time at Verdesana immensely and am also really enthused by the prospect of getting stuck in at PCR, a vegan animal sanctuary in Tucurrique.
