I went from regulation Autumn waterproofs to actually saluting the sun in four hours flat. Or at least I would have done had I not arrived in the dark, but what a view to wake up to.

Spilling from balconies and over walls the geraniums and dragonflies, hibiscus and lizards lined every street to the sea, while cats blinked lazily at me from cactus shade; liberatingly tropical.

I came closest to escape surrounded by waves with only a skinny spit of rock to lead me back to land and crouched there watching fish for an aeon.
